In 1884, the Velvet Spur Saloon and Boarding House is barely surviving in the rough frontier town of Mercy Canyon. Its sharp-witted owner, Vivian “Vivi” Vale, will do almost anything to keep the doors open, especially if it involves creative fees, questionable advertising, or charging someone for property damage. Her unlikely staff includes Gideon Rook, a quiet handyman with a dangerous past; Mara Quinn, a reckless would-be heroine working off a debt; Nell Bell, a teenage hustler who can turn any disaster into a betting opportunity; Elias Finch, an overeducated clerk obsessed with rules; Moses Mercer, a gruff cook with strong opinions; and Sheriff “Lucky” Pike, whose greatest talent is taking credit for accidents.

Across fifteen chaotic misadventures, the saloon survives thieves, fake medicine, a travel inspector, a missing cashbox, a temperance campaign, a disastrous talent show, and several attempts at “modern business.” Mara accidentally catches real criminals while trying to arrest innocent men. Nell creates side hustles out of gambling, ghostwriting, and hidden fees. Rook struggles to keep his former identity buried as old faces begin appearing. Through every crisis, Vivi turns catastrophe into profit. Together, they become a deeply dysfunctional frontier family—held together by debt, secrets, stubborn loyalty, and one very fragile front door.
